TORTURING MONKEYS ONLINE

A few days ago, BBC broadcasted a documentary and shone a spotlight on a sickening online phenomenon of monkey haters, people who make a living out of torturing monkeys,(specifically long-tailed macaques, who are also native to #Singapore), and subjecting them to all forms of inhumane abuse. Southeast Asia is a hotbed for the monkey torture, funded by monkey haters worldwide, including the USA and UK, where sadistic methods are chosen to make the animals suffer unimaginable pain.
As a SMACC (Social Media Animal Cruelty Coalition) member and a core member of Asia for Animals Coalition, ACRES would like to take the chance to highlight to you – the netizens, some steps that would put pressure on social media platforms to enact changes in their policies to stop such abhorrent and cruel torture towards monkeys.
Even when we are unsure, never click, comment or react, insert emoji, forward, share, attempt to educate or create awareness towards those who are ignorant. Any form of online engagement, even if it’s to go against such treatment of monkeys, only seeks to increase the number of views, popularity and monetization from the videos. Flag and report the content to the platform.
