[APPEAL FOR INFORMATION] ABANDONED MARMOSET AND BALL PYTHON

Within a week, our #wildliferescue team attended to two cases of exotic illegal pet abandonment.

On 27 May 2020 around 3pm, we were alerted to a case of a male #Marmoset on a tree at 701 Geylang Road. The #primate was rescued and sent to the Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) for further examination and he was found to be in poor condition. The animal was very thin, and had signs of moderate to severe dental and gum disease, as well as tumours. The difficult decision was therefore made to euthanise on humane and welfare grounds.

On 1 June 2020 around 9pm, our team attended to a case of a ball python found at the bin centre of block 52 Chin Swee Road. The helpful cleaner shared that the live python was tied up in a white plastic bag and discarded at the lift lobby of the said block. The python is now under our care.

We have reported both cases to the NParks to investigate further.

We are appealing to anyone who may have information on both incidents, or of someone who may have kept the animal(s)as an illegal pet. If you have any information to build this case, please email us at acrescrime@gmail.com

We will greatly appreciate any information which will help us to continue the fight against the illegal wildlife trade. It is heart-breaking to witness such rescues. The suffering doesn’t end at the capture, sub-optimal conditions of breeding or smuggling, but illegal keeping of wildlife often culminates in such abandonment. If they have not been spotted by kind people, they would have suffered even more.
