A Landmark Step For Mangrove Conservation In Sabah..

A landmark step for mangrove conservation in Sabah!

The Sabah Mangrove Action Plan (SMAP) was officially launched by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Bin Haji Noor, with Chief Conservator of Forests Datuk Frederick Kugan in attendance at the 20th Malaysian Forestry Conference.

SMAP will serve as a critical blueprint for the protection, restoration, and sustainable management of Sabah’s mangroves, ensuring the flourishing of these essential ecosystems for future generations.

WWF-Malaysia congratulates the Sabah Government for implementing the Sabah Mangrove Action Plan, which ensures policy coherence in mangrove management to address threats, enhance synergies, and achieve shared sustainable outcomes. This plan recognises the vital role of mangroves in Sabah’s natural and cultural heritage, as they provide essential habitats for numerous species, stabilise shorelines, prevent erosion, protect coastal areas from waves and storms, and enhance climate resilience. We hope for more protection and better management of mangroves in Sabah, ensuring their sustainability for future generations.
