𝗦𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡 𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗬: Our wildlife rescue team attended to four different cases from very concerned members of the public for wildlife on glue traps: Two plantain squirrels, two spotted house geckos, one rock pigeon, one Javan mynah and one paradise tree snake.
Sadly, we suspect that the baby squirrel had entered the covered glue trap and the mother squirrel followed to help. The mother squirrel passed away a couple hours after rescue from stress and glue ingestion and inhalation, and the baby had to be euthanised due to ingestion and inhalation of glue as well. Our rescue officers recounted that they kept them in each other’s view during assessment and fluid therapy, to avoid further stress for the mother and baby.
One of the geckos was stuck to their predator, the paradise tree snake, and both were safely removed and released. The mynah and the pigeon were released eventually after glue removal.
We will bring you the stories of these wild victims of glue traps periodically, and we would like to thank all these callers who have been patiently answering our queries from our campaigns team, to collect data on glue trap location, actual intensity of rat issue in the area and who has placed the glue trap. This information is crucial for our further engagements with stakeholders on use of glue traps in Singapore.
