Meet Laavanyaa! Our mentor for RASMA 2024!

“Hi! I’m Laavanyaa, a passionate advocate for our planet and its ancient inhabitants. Currently pursuing my master’s degree at Universiti Malaya, I delve deep into the world of palaeontology, specializing in the mesmerizing realm of amber fossils. Armed with a bachelor’s degree in Biodiversity Conservation and Management, my journey has been a fusion of scientific curiosity and dedication to environmental stewardship. As a dedicated reptile enthusiast and avid herper, my love for these scaly companions adds another dimension to my conservation efforts. Every day, I strive to make a lasting impact for the Earth, aiming for a legacy of preservation and progress.

Thanks to my time volunteering at Lang Tengah Turtle Watch (LTTW) which is now known as Pulihara Malaysia. My most memorable and fun experience was witnessing firsthand the incredible journey of the magnificent green sea turtle, which left me in tears of awe. Witnessing her lay eggs and return to the ocean was an unforgettable experience. Seeing her determination to find the perfect spot, camouflage against predators, and navigate back to the sea filled me with overwhelming admiration. Holding turtle eggs and releasing hatchlings was an honour, yet seeing them face the challenges of the ocean, especially with predators nearby, broke my heart. Turtles are precious creatures, and I’m committed to protecting them at all costs. Inspired by LTTW’s dedication, I believe that everyone can make a difference in conservation. Whether it’s cleaning up beaches or spreading awareness, every action counts.

I’m committed to continuing my conservation journey and educating others on the environment and biodiversity. Let’s unite our efforts and pave the way for a brighter, greener future! Together, we can make a real difference!”
