Dyk That A Single Malayan Tiger Typically Needs To..

🐅 #DYK that a single Malayan tiger typically needs to hunt and consume at least one deer each week to sustain itself? That’s approximately 52 deers a year! 🦌 But fear not, there are other prey species for tiger to hunt, such as wild boar and muntjac.

Unfortunately, the wild boar population has recently suffered a decline due to African Swine Fever, hence there is insufficient prey which leads to the recent increase in human-tiger conflict.

As tigers need to find food, and both sambar deer and wild boar numbers have declined, they start to prey on livestock. Hence, prey augmentation efforts need to be intensified so the tigers have sufficient prey to survive on in the forest. 🌿🐯
