The box turtle that we rescued from the roadside mid-November has passed away despite our effort to give it the best possible care 😭

We drove the turtle to Kuala Terengganu where our former intern, Dr. Lim Wei Li is currently attached to.

Due to the damage to the turtle’s beak, a feeding tube was inserted to facilitate feeding of meds and feeds. Metal pins were placed to support the fractured beak.

A week later, Dr. Lim noticed that the box turtle kept gaining weight (indicative that feed is stuck in its body and not digested normally).

Then, the next morning, we were informed that the turtle had passed 😭

Dr. Lim performed an autopsy and found signs of liver failure, severe gastric ulcer and bleeding, and blockage in the small intestines, among others. The cause of death was reported as septicaemia leading to multiple organ failure.

We’re sorry, Boxy, we did our best.

You’re now free from pain 🙏🏻
