A humane organization created this image to help people understand that life in a cage – any cage- is no life at all. House bunnies need freedom to exercise, protection from weather, protection from predators and careful observation of their health and happiness. They are not prisoners who should be passed food and water once a day. That’s not a life. House bunnies can be playful, affectionate and curious friends. They often interact well with other species of pets and family members. Just be careful to bunny-proof any accessible rooms as bunnies will chew electrical cords (there are easy fixes for that). Remember, having a pet is not about keeping them alive, it’s about providing a life worth living. They need you! Pay close attention to their behavior, especially their eating habits. If a rabbit stops eating, it is a medical EMERGENCY and you need to immediately see a vet. Because of their motility, rabbits can not go without eating the way dogs and cats can.
