Did you know? Coastal communities in Sabah currently protect over 12,000 hectares of marine areas – but we are not stopping.

We are teaming up with these dedicated community members, alongside the Sabah Forestry Department, Forever Sabah, PACOS Trust, and Reef Check Malaysia. Our mission? To work on a global recognition of these community-protected areas as Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) under the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

With unwavering resolve, WWF-Malaysia with coastal communities and our valued partners, are embarking on an ambitious journey to safeguard 30% of Malaysian seas and coasts by 2030, mirroring the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. We firmly believe in the transformative power of collaboration and local solutions in the face of a global climate crisis. #TogetherPossible
