This Evening, We'll Continue With The Most Recogni..

This evening, we’ll continue with the most recognisable freshwater #turtle, the Malayan Box Turtle (Cuora amboinensis). They are often seen trying to cross the roads (to get to the other side!), which sometimes ends in tragedy 😢

They are typically found in rice fields, marshes and shallow ponds due to their preference of still water. This species easily recognized by their olive to dark olive-colored head with three yellow stripes on either side.

They mate in the water. Females will find a moist area to dig a nest with their hind legs to lay up to 5 eggs per nest. Malayan box turtles can lay several nests per year.

They are omnivore, and feed on different types of plants 🌱, fruits 🍎, worms 🪱, larvae 🐛, mushrooms 🍄, crustaceans 🦀, and small animals 🐟.

Their superpower is being able to disappear! Well, they think they can disappear anyway when danger is near – they can shut their feet, head and tail completely inside their shell thanks to the hinge-line on the plastron!

What do you do when you are scared? 😰
