Did You Know That A Turtle's Shell Is Made Up Of T..

Did you know that a turtle’s shell is made up of tough keratin, which is the same protein that makes up our nails?

Hard-shelled turtles, such as the river terrapins, box turtles, and Asian brown tortoises rely on their shells for protection. They are able to retract their head and neck into their shell to avoid being eaten by their predators.

And because they move pretty slowly (at least on land), hard-shelled turtles’ diet consists of food that do not require much speech to obtain, such as riverine vegetation, and small invertebrates such as snails.

On the other hand, softshell turtles do not have a hard shell, but what they lack in, they make up in flexibility and speed! When threatened, they can swim very fast, thanks to their relatively flattened body!

Softshell turtles are ambush predators. They camouflage very well underneath the sand. Their diet consists of a variety of insects, small fishes, snails,

tadpoles, and riverine vegetation too!
