Poisoning Our Wildlife?. As If Almost Seeking Just..
As if almost seeking justice, a poisoned Changeable Hawk Eagle was rescued from outside the Supreme court yesterday. Presented with symptoms of poisoning, our veterinary team immediately worked their way to stabilise the #raptor. The eagle regurgitated pigeon parts during the treatment, which strengthened our suspicion that this eagle had consumed a poisoned pigeon.
Pigeon population management through #poisoning in Singapore is a highly unscientific, ineffective and indiscriminate method, as it doesn’t address the root cause of the problem which is food availability (Click here to read NParks recent research publication on this topic: https://bit.ly/SingaporePigeonPopulation). Not only is it inhumane, it affects other native wildlife and any animal (dogs/cats) who may ingest the poison bait.
The raptor is alert now after oxygen therapy, medication and overnight rest. Fingers crossed, this raptor pulls through this, to return to the wild!
