Kill shelters generally have a cut off age for the dogs and cats under their care. This is because as an animal becomes older, its chances of being adopted becomes almost zero. Old and sick as well as badly injured dogs brought to them are euthanised. According to common sense and praticality, this is the right thing to do as the money spent on maintaining an unadopted dog as well as paying for the veterinary care of an old and injured dog can be used to help animals that are less of a commitment. However, no-kill shelters like MDDB have a different set of principles altogether. We keep old, frail and unwanted dogs until they are ready to go on their own. We love them and care for them as best as we can. We are saying this to explain to someone as to why we choose not to euthanise Kobe, an old and injured dog we rescued a few months ago. Kobe has been admitted at Gasing yet again after not eating and looking listless. Kobe deserves to live as he is a happy dog. Please give us your opinions on this.
