They say eating with your loved ones makes the food taste better.
It’s hard to put a complex emotion to a reptile without attributing human characteristics. But in the same breath, we forget how similar they are to us.
Like us, they need the basics to survive; food, shelter, oxygen, water, space.
Like us, they have the capacity to suffer, feel comfort and pain.
These African spurred tortoises, once kept as illegal pets, are the third-largest species of tortoise in the world [space]. As a hatchling, they fit right in your palm, but they grow to be bulldozers who also love digging [shelter] and require “not just vegetables” [food and water] to maintain good health.
Granite, Bobby and Garnet now reside in our Sanctuary with a chance of returning to their homeland.
