Predatory fire ants are known to attack hatchlings in nests. Hatchlings typically take several hours or days after pipping, to fully absorb residual yolk before emerging from the nest. During this time, they are vulnerable to fire ants attack which resulted in dead or impaired hatchlings.
This particular nest were the only nest that was invaded by fire ants and out of 10 hatchlings, only 5 managed to escape the attack. Fret not terrapin lovers! We are checking and making sure that other nests are safe from fire ants invasion.
We are also happy to inform that more terrapin hatchlings are coming out! Do not miss this chance to symbolically adopt a terrapin today!
