HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WHALE SHARK DAY!
These graceful sharks are the largest fish in the sea, reaching over 12m in length! They are covered in beautiful star-like spots, but the reason for this remains a mystery.
The tide is turning for these gentle giants: while sadly still killed for their meat and fins, in many places whale sharks are now considered more valuable alive thanks to eco-tourism!
If youre lucky enough to swim with them, choose an ethical operator that doesnt allow the sharks to be chased or touched as this disturbs them. Wild animals deserve space and respect!
Long live these gentle giants of the sea!
