“They thought they can just glide through…

ICA officers uncovered 27 cartons and 959 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes hidden in various compartments of an arriving Malaysia-registered car on 13 Jul at the Woodlands Checkpoint. During the course of checks, ICA officers also found a live sugar glider hidden in a bundle of socks.

Smuggled animals are of unknown health status and may introduce exotic animal diseases into Singapore. The welfare of the animal may also be compromised due to the methods used to conceal the animal.

The method of concealment is a cause of concern as it may be used by persons with ill intent to smuggle security items into Singapore.

The case has been handed over to Singapore Customs and Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) for further investigations.”
