LIL-WON THE JUVENILE MALAYAN COLUGO!
Lil-Won was found stranded by a member of public at Bukit Timah. Lil-Won was a juvenile Malayan colugo. However, she could grip onto a tree trunk and climb it. Very often, in urban Singapore, young/juvenile animals get lost or stranded. In such cases, the ACRES wildlife rescue team always places emphasis on reuniting these lost wild animals with their parents first. Usually, the adults will be around in the vicinity.
We were not sure how Lil-Won will react if we placed her on a tree. The call for her came in the evening, and we made our way down to attempt to reunite her. We managed to find the exact location where Lil-Won was found and patiently listened to the sounds coming from the trees, in hopes of hearing a adult Colugo. Colugos, just like other wild animals are very shy and in order to reunite, we had to step back abit and watch from afar. Lil-Won could climb and move around quite abit and we started to hear adult colugo calls from the trees. When we checked awhile later, we realized that Lil-Won had actually managed to move onto an adjacent tree, out of our reach. She seemed fine and independent. The persisting sounds of the adult colugo calls reassured us and we hope that Lil-Won is doing well!
Very often, the ACRES wildlife rescue team receives calls for baby or juvenile wild animals. We feel that reunion should always be a priority as their chances of surviving are best with their parents. This is especially so for birds. If you come across a young animal, always take note of the exact location where you found the animal and keep a look out for the adults who may be in the area. You can watch a video of a similar colugo rescue we did before at :
