IT’S SUPER COLD, BUT THE CATS WILL BE WARM
Harmony Fund is again responding to a heating crisis in Serbia where 125 cats are counting on us to keep them warm within the safety of the Felix Cat Sanctuary.
“We ran out of gas and central heating stopped working around 12 days ago, while Serbia was in the grips of its worst cold snap in a long time, with polar nighttime temperatures lower that 20C below zero and daytime temperatures of 10C below zero,” the sanctuary’s caretaker Jasna explained. “After several days of freezing, as the electric heaters werent able to warm up neither the cats rooms, nor the room I sleep in, a friend of mine managed to borrow 400 euros and somehow persuaded the gas company to sell her as much gas for central heating as she could pay for. Right now the central heating is on again, but unfortunately the amount of gas that was purchased wouldnt last long”.
“We havent had a big snow storm here yet, but everything is frozen, the ground is covered in ice and its extremely slippery. All of the cats have grown thick winter fur since the end of autumn and theyre hanging on for now, youngsters are taking a stroll through the yard every day, while the geriatric kitties prefer to stay in their rooms where its pleasantly warm again”
Fuel has been delivered and should last for most of the winter with perhaps one final delivery needed in March. Meanwhile, the sanctuary has other urgent costs for food, litter and vaccines.
