Alva - Our Sanctuary Heroine
Tweet |
A very real but less known issue faced over at our sanctuary NANAS – is the danger of snakes. Not all snakes are harmful or viciously poisonous but just this afternoon, we had Alva who battled with an eight foot long cobra and unfortunately lost her life. With her selfless actions, she saved the rest of her pals, and the humans too.
We took in numerous dogs from the great 2007 JB flood, and this heroine was one of them. Alva was three years old when she entered the sanctuary gates, and would have been a grand twelve years old this year. She was a real fighter till the end and let us remember her for this.
This is an important reminder to us and all that the sanctuary has its own dangers being semi-outdoor. The perks of it is of course the vast free-roaming grassland and ponds for occasional dips especially with the sweltering heat these days. However, there is always the need for constant repairs and maintenance of the sanctuary to keep the dogs and rest of the residents safe.
Alva – thank you and have fun at the Rainbow Bridge! We will see you again, some day. J
