Karen Aram of Illinois reports:
Traveling on the highway fast lane to work one morning in Bangkok, Thailand, I was stunned to see a small kitten suddenly in front of me. It appeared to have fallen from the back of a pick up truck ahead. I immediately stopped, though by the time I did, it had disappeared under my small van.
I cautiously got out of the car on the assumption that it was under my car and would surely be killed if I didnt rescue it, as there was nowhere for it to go. It wouldnt be able to jump up on the berme on the inside of the highway, given it was so small, and it certainly wouldnt make it through the fast moving traffic on the other side.
I knew it wasnt safe for me getting out on the highway with cars buzzing by, and cars behind me honking impatiently, but I could hear the kitten crying.
Trying to reach it appeared to be an almost impossible task given I had to attempt the act from the front of my vehicle. I couldnt see it but knew I couldnt drive over it either. Fortunately I was soon able to ascertain that it had crawled up the front wheel, which allowed me to pluck it off and carry it around to the inside of the van.
I raised the little guy up in order to show the drivers stuck behind me that I hadnt lost my mind and there was a reason for me stopping in this ridiculous way. The response was one of thumbs up and laughter. It wasnt easy driving into work with this little creature who insisted on sitting under the gas pedal, but we made it unscathed.
Suffice it to say, I now had another cat to add to my menangerie, a beautiful little boy.
