Attention New Englanders:

“Salvatore (in Massachusetts, USA) is a purebred Siamese cat who was abandoned by his owners when they decided they no longer wanted him in their house. A neighbor began feeding him once she noticed that they were no longer letting him inside and he got getting skinnier and skinnier. She set up a cat house on her porch and he was happy for the warmth it provided. She fed him and brushed him every day.

She contacted Siamese Rescue, who came to evaluate him and he was accepted into their program but when the time came for him to go to his new foster home, the woman had trouble getting him into a carrier. The rescue asked me to help get Sal inside and to a vet. The woman was finally able to get him and she brought him over. Everyone was so relieved to finally have him safe and off the streets.

The next day, he went in for surgery and we were devastated to find out that he not only tested positive for FIV, but also leukemia. Once again, Sals bad luck was back. The rescue could no longer accept him, nor would the home that was waiting for him adopt him anymore. I had to call his savior to tell her the bad news, and she broke down in tears. She cared for him since she was released from the hospital and it took 6 months to get him safe. She is waiting for a double lung transplant herself and being hooked up to an oxygen tank made it all the more challenging. I hated to have to give her this news.

She would love to adopt Salvatore, but her 18 year old cat is in the beginning stages of renal failure and she doesnt know how long he will live. Her cat is her best friend and she doesnt want to think about losing him. If I could find a long term foster for Sal, she would adopt him once she loses her cat or a permanent home would also be wonderful to find. He is a beautiful boy who has suffered terrible neglect in his short life, which has resulted in him contracting two terrible diseases. He will have a short life, and we want what time he has to be beautiful. Please share his story so that we can find him some peace with what time he has left. Thank you. Animal Rescue Chase

The Great Animal Rescue Chase celebrates the art of animal rescue with a worldwide race to rescue one million. It’s a free event, open to all, and is perhaps the only global animal rescue event aimed at helping any animal in distress, anywhere in the world. Our ambition is to create a culture of enthusiasm and pride in animal activism. We believe in teaching, by example, that there is a hero in each of us just waiting to be unleashed. Empowered animal lovers can not only save lives, but build the momentum for powerful animal welfare reform.
