A Piece From A Volunteer Of HELP Institute

Here’s another piece from another volunteer from HELP Institue. We are glad we opened her mind about keeping dogs and how to care for them.

I am a student from HELP University. In the foundation course we were given a task and asked to complete 10 hours of community service. Since I am a dog lover myself, I took this opportunity to complete my task in Second Chance, which is located along Old Klang Road.
Few days ago, my friends and I went here to start our service. When I first stepped into this place, I found that it looks so old and simple. I saw different species of dogs running here and there. All of them were abandoned! However, there are very clean and this has to be thanked for the volunteers of Second Chance who tried their best to take good care of these dogs.
The first mission we were asked to do is to build up a kennel. It was my first time on building something like this and I felt satisfied and proud when I finally did it. Besides, we were taught to feed the dogs and bathe them. Although I have a dog in my house, but I’m not the one who takes care of it. But now I already have the idea and knowledge how to take care of my dog. At here, I also learnt how to develop a good relationship between dogs and human. As long as we are good to them, they will be friendly to us!
I saw a few dogs which had injured very badly. There’s one dog had a big wound on its body due to the fight with other dogs. The volunteers here had spent quite a large amount of money to sent this dog for operation. From here, we can see how much they love the dogs and willing to spend most of their time on taking care these people’s so-called ‘wild dogs’.
I sincerely hope that everyone who owns a dog will love their dogs and also appreciate their presence in your life. Don’t get/buy a dog just because your friends have one, and don’t abandoned them just because you found a new one and think the new one is better and nicer. Only keep them if you really love and are passionate for them. Lastly, anyone whom interested to have a dog please kindly come to Second Chance to take a look on these dogs. If you are interested in anyone of them, ask for adoption. They may not look like a golden retriever or a husky but I believe if you treat them with your true heart, they can make your life beautiful!
Thank you.
